The Mais Médicos Program is an initiative of the Brazilian federal government that aims to bring medical care to regions of the country that have a lack of professionals in the field.

The program was created in 2013 and since then has been responsible for bringing foreign doctors to work in remote and peripheral areas of Brazil.

The objective is to fill the gaps left by doctors who ended their contracts or by those who did not renew their links with the program. In this way, with the opening of new vacancies, it is expected to guarantee the continuity of medical care in areas that depend on the program.

On March 20, 2023, President Lula announced the relaunch of the Mais Médicos Program, an initiative focused on primary health care that aims to fill vacancies in the Health Unic System (SUS).

This announcement brings hope to millions of Brazilians who face difficulties accessing basic health care.

With the publication of a notice by the Primary Health Care Secretariat this Tuesday (18), municipalities that are interested in participating in the program can apply for these vacancies.

In addition, the Ministry of Health also published a notice with 6,252 authorized vacancies for cities that wish to renew their participation or join the program.

Furthermore, the government reported that it should open another 10 thousand vacancies by the end of the year, with compensation from the municipalities.

The government has joined forces to ensure that doctors remain in the program for longer

The Mais Médicos Program is a Brazilian government initiative that seeks to guarantee access to basic healthcare for the most vulnerable population, who often live in remote regions and lack resources.

Since its launch in 2013, the program has been a success, attracting doctors from various parts of the world and significantly improving health indicators in different regions of the country.

However, one of the government's main concerns has been ensuring that doctors remain in the program for a longer period.

To this end, several incentives were created, which aim to value the work of professionals and recognize the effort they make to meet the needs of the population.

New benefits for Mais Médicos professionals

Among the new features of the renewed Mais Médicos Program project, the possibility of an additional 10% to 20% of the total sum of scholarships for doctors who remain in the program for at least 3 years stands out, taking into account the vulnerability of the municipality.

This incentive is a way of recognizing the dedication and commitment of doctors who decide to stay longer in the program, and also to ensure that patients continue to have access to quality care.

In addition, doctors who graduated from Fies will be able to receive an additional 40% to 80% from the total sum of the scholarships.

Also taking into account the vulnerability of the municipality, paid in four installments over 48 months, 10% per year in the first three years and the remaining 70% at the end of the period.

There will also be incentives for Fies doctors resident in Family Medicine, in addition to a supplement to the value of the scholarship for women on maternity leave who receive assistance from the INSS, 20 days of paternity leave and the offer of specialization and master's degrees.
