Are you trying to register for Bolsa Família, but don't know what to do and start receiving the benefit? This post was made for you.
Here I will cover everything you need to know about the content and how you can register for the opportunity to receive the government benefit.
As it is necessary to go through a list of criteria and present some documents, keep an eye on the details below so you don't miss anything. Good reading!
What is Bolsa Família?

Bolsa Família is a Federal Government program offered to families considered low-income, vulnerable and in situations of poverty or extreme poverty.
This is one of the several programs that make up Fome Zero, which focuses on ensuring the right of human beings to eat adequately, generating food and nutritional security.
Thus, the focus is to minimize the chances of the population going hungry, generating greater opportunities and basic minimum rights.
Who is entitled to Bolsa Família?
To begin with, it is essential that the family income per person is not greater than R$ 210.00. Furthermore, the beneficiary cannot receive a benefit that causes this income to exceed the amount.
Another point, but this is much more obvious, is that you need to be registered in the government's CadÚnico and you must be over 16 years old to request the benefit, in addition to not having any CNPJ opened in your name.
Finally, there are criteria aimed at children, who need to be enrolled in school and have their vaccination card up to date. Extra attention is given to pregnant women who need prenatal care.
– Additional criteria in 2023:
In 2023 there was an update to the criteria for families to receive Bolsa Família and you need to be careful, because if they are not met, even if you already receive it, you could lose the benefit.
Among the changes is that children need to have a school attendance of at least 85%, which will be verified monthly. If there are more than 15% of the monthly school period of absences, the benefit will be lost.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the year a complete analysis of the benefit will take place, as several families receive it unduly and the objective is to stop these people from receiving it and give the opportunity to those who really need it.
How to register for Bolsa Família?
As with all benefits from the Federal Government, you need to register for the Single Registration, which is the program responsible for controlling all the benefits created, so, if you meet all the criteria I mentioned before, you must register.
To do this, there are two options, go to CRAS (Social Assistance Reference Center) and register directly, taking the necessary documents or pre-register on the internet or through the app and take the documents to CRAS only for data confirmation.
If you decide to pre-register, you have 240 days to bring the documents, otherwise you will need to register again. To complete the procedure, you must bring identification documents for everyone in the family. These documents are:
- ID card;
- CPF;
- Work card;
- Voter registration card;
- Birth certificate;
- Wedding certificate.
I registered, when will I start receiving?
One of the most frequent questions people have is when they start receiving Bolsa Família after registering with CadÚnico.
However, it is important to remember that there is no deadline for this, as the fact of registering does not make you a beneficiary.
After registration, you receive a NIS – Social Identification Number, generated for all families, however, none of this guarantees approval for the benefit, as the registration goes through an analysis and then enters a waiting list.
How much can you receive when joining Bolsa Família?
If you manage to get into Bolsa Família, you will receive a fixed amount of R$ 600.00, plus R$ 150.00 per family with children up to six years of age. However, the R$ 150.00 balance will only come into effect from March 2023, so keep an eye on this update.
If you have already received the benefit, but have not had this update, go to a CRAS and update your data, which cannot go for more than two years without being updated, otherwise you run the risk of losing the benefit.
If you are eligible to receive the Bolsa Família, you can withdraw it through your card, in different ways, such as:
- box has;
- Cash machine;
- Lottery houses;
- Caixa Aqui Correspondents;
- Caixa branches.
