English defender John Stones could play his first online game in nearly a month when Manchester City face Borussia Dortmund.

The two groups meet in Germany in a Champions League community match on Wednesday, with the city wanting a draw for the exact comfortable venue.

Stones did not play as he suffered a hamstring injury in England's three-way draw against Germany on September 26 and is in City's squad.

Aymeric Laporte is also named regardless of having a knock against Brighton.

English duo Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips remain out, despite the latter having a soft training session again following shoulder surgery.

These two groups met at the Etihad Stadium in the second round and the German side took the lead through England midfielder Jude Bellingham before the metropolis scored twice in the last 10 minutes via Stones and Erling Haaland to win 2-1.

The Norwegian striker scored 86 times in 89 games for Dortmund between 2020 and 2022 before moving to the metropolis in the summer in a £51m move and scored 22 times in just 15 appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola's side.

City are in 10 aspects in 4 matches and have already secured a place in the final 16, but will beat the borough and avoid the other borough winners in the following round with a draw.

“Dortmund are always a problematic opponent”, said Guardiola. “In important video games, they behave to the right degree. They are generally not convenient, we have a lot of appreciation for them.

“We understand that we must behave and be more efficient to beat them, there is no doubt about that.

“it’s a fantastic stadium that everyone knows, a wonderful atmosphere, happy to be here again.

“We arrived here due to Covid cases. That game became one of the vital highlights of my city profession as we won [2-1] here and went to the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

Dortmund can qualify for the Champions League knockout stages before kicking a ball on Tuesday night when Sevilla face Copenhagen at 17:45 BST and a draw would suggest the German side have secured a fitting final two.

“We know that the game will have a region before ours, but now it is not in our hands to affect the video game,” said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic.

“It may be a different task, but we want the same conviction we showed in Manchester.”

Dortmund moved into fifth place in the Bundesliga, 4 aspects behind leaders Union Berlin, after thrashing Stuttgart 5-0 on Saturday.

Defender Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck and Raphael Guerreiro were withdrawn in that outfit, but Terzic expressed optimism that they could be fit, while striker Donyell Malen is also more advantageous after the affliction.

Attacking midfielder Marco Reus is doubtful with an ankle injury and midfielder Salih Ozcan is suspended.
