What is the CNH Social?

Many people don't know, but there is a social project called CNH social that offers low-income people the chance to get their driver's license for free, that is, without having to pay anything.

How does the CNH Social work?

Despite being free, the process of collecting the driver's license is exactly the same as for people who make the payment. Therefore, you will need to go through the entire CTB – Brazilian Traffic Code process, which are:

  • Carry out medical and psychotechnical examinations;
  • Theoretical classes and exams;
  • Classes and practical exams.

Therefore, when chosen you will stop paying for items such as:

  • Medical examinations, including toxicology;
  • DETRAN fees that are linked to the CNH, such as issuance, possible license renewals or even category changes;
  • You will not need to bear the costs of theoretical and practical classes or payment for the test.

Who can get a Social Driver's License?

Now that you know what the social driver's license is and how it works, let's see if it meets the necessary requirements. Are they:

What are the ways to enroll in the program?

There are two ways for you to sign up for the CNH Social program and we will talk about each of them below.

However, it is important to be aware, as there is no predetermined date for when registrations will be open.

Therefore, you will need to keep an eye out or contact your city's DMV for more information.

– Registration through the Detran of your state:

The first one is from your state's Detran. Therefore, check if your state provides this type of benefit in the list above.

If provided, access your state's Detran website and search for social CNH registration and fill out the form according to the requested data. After that, you just need to send the form and follow the process completion.

Once this is done, Detran will begin analyzing the information and getting in touch to clarify the steps.

– Registration through SEST/SENAT:

Registration via SEST/SENAT It's very similar to Detran's. Click here and you will be directed to the website.

Once done, click on COURSES and then go to Social and Professional Driver's License. Confirm your details that will be requested on the portal and click on the start registration option.

Answer the questions asked on the form and do not leave any requested information unanswered. After completing the registration, wait for the platform to contact you.

How are profiles evaluated and who are chosen?

After registering, the program evaluators will evaluate all the registrations that took place and will choose according to the criteria.

Among the preference criteria we have:

  • Lower per capita income;
  • Complex high school;
  • Registration in updated social programs;
  • Number of people living in the house with the person registered.

Furthermore, it will be taken into account when you made your registration, from the day to the hour, if the previous criteria are tied.

This extra analysis happens because there is a limit of places to receive the program and these are the criteria evaluated when breaking ties.

If you have any questions, you can follow the entire process on the Detran website, as the results will be announced there.
