Senator Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker faced off Friday night in Savannah for the most effective head-to-head debate ever.
The candidates answered questions about the economy, abortion, charging for fitness and school care, and their personal integrity, among other topics.
In his opening statement, Walker said that Warnock “will try to talk to you about what he accomplished, but his checklist speaks for itself.”.
Warnock began by talking about becoming one of the 12 babies in Kayton's homes in Savannah.

economic system and inflation
The first question for the candidates was about the financial system and inflation, asking Walker for a single specific measure to improve the financial system.
Walker pointed to the listed inflation and blamed the Biden administration, as well as his opponent Warnock.
“Within two years, inflation worsened,” Walker said. “They raised taxes and spent our money recklessly. We need to become independent of power again.”
Warnock defended his work in the Senate.
“There’s no doubt that people are feeling pain,” Warnock stated. “I passed the single biggest tax cut, contrary to what my opponent is suggesting, for the ranking of the center of American history.”
Warnock pointed to the Inflation Reduction Act as a victory for Georgians, primarily mentioning the cap on the cost of insulin for Medicare patients at US$$ 35 and legislation to lower prescription drug expenses for the elderly. He also criticized Walker for announcing he would vote against the IRA.

Regarding voting rights, Warnock maintained his opposition to Georgia's new voting legislation, SB 202, which he said will make voting more complicated.

“I even spent my entire career, long before I got to the Senate, fighting for voting rights, because I consider voting to be a kind of prayer,” Warnock said. “There’s no doubt that SB 202 makes voting more durable, and that’s the intention.”

When asked if he truly believes Biden and Warnock won, Walker mentioned: “President Biden and Warnock got it, that’s why I decided to run. … Warnock went to Washington and forgot about the people in Georgia…”
Entry point and core of abortion
The news broke this month that Walker allegedly paid a girl to have an abortion and asked her to have a different kind of abortion.
“That’s a lie,” Walker stated. “One issue regarding my existence is that I’ve actually been transparent, unlike the senator. On abortion, I’m a Christian. I believe in lifestyles. Georgia is a state that respects life, and I could be a senator who protects lifestyles.”
Warnock, known as abortion, is a personal alternative.
“I am where I actually said I was in the past. The examination room is too small for the patient, her doctor, and the U.S. government,” Warnock said.

Increased school fees, low wages
Walker did not say whether or not he would help with forgiving the student's personal loan, but he did say that it is not the responsibility of Georgians to handle that burden now.
“How can you transfer someone’s debt to someone else who doesn’t owe it?” Walker pointed out. “I didn’t sign anyone’s loan.”
Warnock, for his part, defended the debt relief plan.
“I wouldn’t be here without low-cost student loans, and Pell offers them,” Warnock said. “That’s why I pushed the president for student debt relief.”
Warnock also noted that the extra money had become essential to cover college expenses.
When asked to raise their hand if they thought the federal minimum wage should be increased, both candidates put their fingers down. Walker noted that some organizations may also not be in a position to raise wages.
“I feel you should work with diverse organizations to see what will also be accomplished,” Walker noted. “Small organizations can’t pay (US$ 15 to US$ 20) hourly. … To raise the federal minimum wage, I can’t do that.”.
Warnock did not explicitly say that he supported a stronger minimum wage, emphasizing instead a "livable" wage.
“I consider the dignity of work,” he mentioned. “Workers deserve to participate in the prosperity they are developing for others. … I believe Americans want a living wage, and part of that is being addressed right now during this effective labor market.”
Crime and defense
The high cost of crime in Georgia has been a major concern for residents. Regarding public safety, Warnock highlighted his work in weapons handling.
“I am pleased that we have passed the first gun protection legislation in 30 years, and we did so on a bipartisan basis,” he mentioned. “I believe this legislation will save lives.”
Warnock also reiterated his support for law enforcement and shot Walker.
“Now we consider that my opponent has a problem with the fact,” Warnock mentioned, referring to previous reports about Walker. “I in no way pretended to be a police officer and in no way threatened to have a shootout with the police.”
Walker referred to Warnock's words, which limited the variety of candidates within the application of the laws.
“Warnock talks about helping with law enforcement. (It’s) sad because he cursed them out,” Walker said. “Recruitment is down because of what he observed. Fentanyl is coming to this nation and Atlanta.”.

Warnock also inquired about evictions at a housing unit owned by the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where residents filed numerous lawsuits after dealing with evictions.
Warnock stated that Walker focusing on the eviction had become an indication of desperation.
“We stand up to bad Americans every day,” he noted. “I’m not going to be distracted by him and his allies.”
Following the speech, Warnock's campaign pointed to reports within the Atlanta Journal's Constitution, where the company managing the construction denied that anyone was evicted for non-payment of employment in June 2020, and stated that the church and Warnock were not concerned about the administration.
Warnock also faced a question regarding his divorce and a lawsuit filed by his ex-wife requesting expedited child support. Warnock reiterated his commitment to supporting his babies.
Walker was diagnosed with several personality disorders, but it was noted that his mental capacity could not yet be criticized.
“I even have an intellectual disability, and many individuals do,” Walker observed. “Warnock is trying to demonize Americans with intellectual disabilities.”

Georgia is one of twelve states that has not further increased Medicaid for all residents below an inalienable income level. Warnock defended the cost of expanding Medicaid, stating that it has become essential, especially with hospital closures across the state.
“This is not a theoretical difficulty for me,” Warnock stated. “Georgia should extend Medicaid. It costs us extra not to expand it further.”
When asked if all Georgians should still have access to healthcare, Walker stated: “Georgians have healthcare. It depends on the type you want. Warnock needs you to trust the government. I want to make it impartial.”
He also criticized Warnock for not helping Governor Brian Kemp's Medicaid expansion plan, which was blocked by the Biden administration.
“Kemp had an excellent plan, while Biden destroyed it,” Walker observed.

At the end of the speech, each candidate answered a few short questions about Joe Biden's leadership, the Braves, and other topics.
Warnock pointed out that he has not spent any time thinking about whether President Joe Biden might still run again in 2024.
Walker said he would help his "friend," former President Donald Trump, who may still seek another term at the Oval Office.
Walker said he is focused on the country's most pressing concerns and is not worried about whether or not the Braves should run away from the tomahawk bite.
“"Right now, we have many other things to worry about," Walker noted.
Warnock noted that he trusted the Braves administration to work with native tribes on the issue.
Asked to help increase the number of seats on the Supreme Court, Warnock said he would do “everything I can to protect the rights of Georgia citizens,” but did not say one way or the other whether he supported the expansion. Walker pointed out that he is against it.

Libertarian Senate candidate Chase Oliver, who was not invited to participate in the debate, spoke with voters outside the venue before the controversy. He wants Georgians to know that they have more than two Senate candidates.
“My main platform is that it’s time we got the job done in Washington,” he said. “I want to be a good broker.”
