The Queen was christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor of York, after her mother, paternal grandmother, and paternal great-grandmother. But as a baby, she was affectionately called young Lilibet by her family \u2013 attributed to her inability to pronounce \u201cElizabeth\u201d competently.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a letter to her grandmother, Queen Mary, the younger princess wrote: \u201cDearest Grandma. Thank you so much for the wonderful T-shirt. We loved staying at Sandringham with you. I lost a right front nail polish the day before,\u201d before ending, \u201cLove from Lilibet.\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Queen Elizabeth's future husband, Prince Philip, also adopted the affectionate nickname after they fell in love. In a 1946 letter to the Queen Mother that was published in creator Philip Eade's 2011 booklet about the prince's adolescence, he wrote: "Lilibet is the most effective 'aspect' on the planet, completely real to me.".<\/span><\/p>\n

The nickname became very common after Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, named their daughter Lilibet Diana in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to public celebrations, there wasn't a fixed day for its "official birthday." This came to be decided by the executive branch, and it's either the first, second, or third Saturday of June. <\/span><\/p>\n
