Volumes have fallen back to 2019 levels and inflation-adjusted spending is expected to reach 98% of 2019 spending in 2023, the association&#039;s records show.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cregardless of inflationary pressures,\u00a0<\/span><span>It&#039;s critical to them \u2014 and travel is still at the top of their agendas, Booking Holdings Chairman and CEO Glenn Fogel told CNBC in an email.\u00a0<\/span><span>Some 57% of US travelers said spending on a vacation is still a top priority, though 70% said they look for ways to get the most for their money, a booking.com survey found.\u00a0<\/span><span>The survey surveyed 24,179 respondents across 32 countries and territories who plan to travel for business or leisure in the next 12 to 24 months.\u00a0<\/span><span>The online survey was conducted in August and included 1,009 respondents from the U.S. \u201cWhen we factor in early search demand in 2023 on booking.com, we see a large increase in gross bookings on travel books occurring in the first quarter of next year,\u201d Fogel said.\u00a0<\/span><span>Delta Air&#039;s stats are also bullish.\u00a0<\/span><span>A week ago, the airline said it expects its adjusted earnings to nearly double to as much as $1.4T6 per share next year.\u00a0<\/span><span>The forecast, which was above Wall Street&#039;s estimates at the time, shows strong demand, the airline said.\u00a0<\/span><span>He anticipates a 15% to 20% start to earnings in 2023 from this year.\u00a0<\/span><span>Basically, the global airline industry is yet to return to profitability in the next 12 months, the Air Transport Association said.\u00a0<\/span><span>The group estimates airlines will earn $4.7 billion \u2013 the first profits from the trade since 2019, when it earned $26.4 billion.\u00a0<\/span><span>However, Wolfe&#039;s research is never banking on continued resurgence.\u00a0<\/span><span>The company recently downgraded the online travel business to underweight.\u00a0<\/span><span>&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span>Our downgrade thesis on back and forth is certainly no longer based on macro trends.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cApart from the fact that children, we are struggling to see demand come and go showing high levels of resilience and growth during a slowing economy in 2023,\u201d analyst Deepak Mathivanan wrote in a statement last month. \u201cThe cost of hotels fell in November from October, based on the latest report from the consumer price index. The price for hotels, inns and lodging fell only about 5% month-over-month, while airfares fell 0.6%. In addition to the fact that children, the cost of hotels, inns and lodging index is still 3% higher than a year ago and airfares were 36% higher.\u00a0<\/span><span>Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney said online ride-hailing companies have already slashed prices and \u201clean and suggest they can charge builds\u201d through 2023. One of his top picks is Booking Holdings, which has a proven management team that has navigated 9\/11, the 2008 financial crisis and Covid, he recently told CNBC\u2019s \u201cClosing Bell.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span>Most of the weaker demand is likely to be included in inventory, but it could also drag shares lower depending on the severity of the recession, Mahaney said in an interview on the watch.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cThey have these more moderate boom initiatives, things like flights, payments and what is called merchandising. So this should still help them in another aspect,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><span>Booking is also a global travel company, with 20% of advertising for Asia-Pacific, and could benefit from pent-up demand once China reopens, he said.\u00a0<\/span><span>Delta seeing better demand While Delta&#039;s forecast changed to optimistic, other airlines struck a more cautious tone.\u00a0<\/span><span>United Airways CEO Scott Kirby recently told CNBC that there is still good demand for travel, but that lucrative business travel has plateaued, and JetBlue warned that demand in December is weaker than previously expected.\u00a0<\/span><span>Sylvia Jablonski, CEO and chief investment officer of Defiance ETFs, likes Delta, calling it the best-run airline on the market.\u00a0<\/span><span>Defiance has a Shuttle ETF (CRUZ) that invests in resort, airline and cruise stocks.\u00a0<\/span><span>Delta shares represent 7% of the ETF.\u00a0<\/span><span>Although the fund is down over 21% year to date, it is\u00a0<\/span><span>s up to 18% since the beginning of the fourth quarter.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cThey have increased their revenue outlook for travel spending next year,\u201d Jablonski mentioned.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cThey are increasing the means of actual aircraft to meet the demand that they have. They have been able to \u2026 eliminate inflation and increase input costs.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span>The stock has a default analyst rating of Buy and 47% Upside from the default price target, according to FactSet.\u00a0<\/span><span>Resort profit growth for a key hotel business metric, earnings per purchasable room, or RevPAR, will end 2022 at high levels, but the industry will also face financial headwinds over the next 12 months, according to PwC.\u00a0<\/span><span>The company also slightly revised its outlook from where it was.\u00a0<\/span><span>He now predicts the resort&#039;s occupancy rates will reach sixty-three.\u00a0<\/span><span>6% over the next 12 months, slightly higher than this year&#039;s forecast of 62.8%.\u00a0<\/span><span>RevPAR will average out but still grow by 5.8% in 2023 year-on-year, PwC said.\u00a0<\/span><span>In this climate, Jablonski likes Marriott, which represents about 8% of CRUZ&#039;s capital.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cThey have a strong balance sheet. They are structured intelligently.
